Identifying the Different Kinds of Acne
If you are one of the millions of individuals who are plagued with acne, then you may not be aware that there are several forms of this condition. Many people are under the impression that acne is the same from person to person, but this may not be true. The information below will provide you with the facts about the many different types of acne.

Common Acne (Acne Vulgaris)

The most commonly seen and experienced form of acne is acne vulgaris. These are the types of blemishes that are most commonly seen on the faces of the individuals around you and can range from mild to severe.

Blackheads

Blackheads are a form of acne that is created when sebum (an oily substance formed from the sebaceous gland) combines with dead skin cells or dirt and partially blocks the pores of your face. The black color is a result of the oxidation of the sebum.

Whiteheads

Whiteheads are the same as blackheads, except that the sebum and dirt mixture combine to completely clog the pores of the face. Both whiteheads and blackheads are not inflammatory forms of acne.

Pustules

Otherwise known as zits, pustules are formed when dead cells, bacteria, and white blood cells combine to clog and inflame a pore. The result is a raised reddened pustule with a yellow or white head in the center.

Pimples

Sometimes called papules as well, pimples are red inflamed pores that cause larger sore bumps on the skin. These should never be popped, as the bacteria inside them could cause the infection to spread to other skin areas.

Nodules and Cysts

These two forms of acne are only formed in the most severe cases of the skin condition. Both nodules and cysts are pus filled and painful, but while nodules are deep under the skin, cysts are large, red and reside above its surface.
The various type of acne further show what a complex and disturbing condition it really is. There are treatments for each form of acne, which can help you get clearer skin, but each type may require a different method in order to eradicate.
